- Review our Network Status page for any noted outages.
- If the Wii Shop Channel service is not available, Wii System Updates will also not be available.
- If you find notice of maintenance or a service outage, please try again after services have returned to normal.
- Set up a new connection. When creating the new connection ensure the Wii console is connecting to the correct network and that it has a strong wireless signal.
- Power cycle your router and modem.Restarting your network devices may resolve this issue if it is related to the devices being unresponsive.
- Check the download and upload speeds of your Internet service.Visit one of the following sites using the web browser of a device connected to your network (other than your Wii) and test your Internet speeds:Once the site loads, select the appropriate option to start the test. Both your download and upload speeds should display after the test completes.
- If you find your download is below 1.5Mbps or your upload is below 1Mbps, this indicates the issue is likely related to your Internet service. Please contact your Internet Service Provider, or a network administrator, for further assistance.

- Enter alternate DNS settings into the Wii.Manually entering alternate DNS settings into your Wii may allow you to successfully complete the System Update.
- If the first alternate DNS does not work, attempt to use another DNS (i.e. If 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 do not work, attempt to use 4.2.2.2 as the Primary DNS and 4.2.2.1 as the Secondary DNS instead).
- Check for wireless interference.Wireless interference may be causing the System Update to time out. After troubleshooting for potential causes, try to update again
- Place your system into the router's DMZ.Placing your system into your router's DMZ will allow it to bypass your router's firewall when connecting to other players.Important: While Nintendo provides this information for our consumers' use, it is up to each consumer to determine what security needs they have for their own networks, and to decide how best to configure their network settings to meet those needs.
